           What is Shockwave Therapy?

It is a non-surgical treatment and works by delivering impulses of energy through your skin to specific damaged tissue within the abnormal tendon. Offering accelerated tissue repair, cell growth, pain relief and recovery.

Shockwave Therapy is a highly effective NICE approved, safe treatment of tendon related pain.

A probe is placed onto the affected area and through your skin it delivers high energy pulses of sound waves. The hand-held device allows your physiotherapist to target the affected area with pin point precision. It works by increasing the blood flow and stimulating cell regeneration and healing. It reverses chronic inflammation, breaks down and removes calcium deposits and thereby giving pain relief.

The number of treatments and frequency depends on the area to be treated and the response to treatment. The effect of your treatment is cumulative. You will typically need three to five treatments.

Many people experience an improvement in symptoms immediately while others may take a few weeks to respond. You may experience some slight reddening of the area being treated but this should settle quickly.
